Time out for Women

I went to the Time out for women conference and it was totally awesome! I highly recommend it. These are my 2 new friends. Jennie and Cassie. We had a great time.

To start out our mini trip, of course we had to go shopping. We went to the outlet mall in Lee, MA. Of course we had fun. We all got some fun stuff and a little chocolate from the Lindt store didn't hurt either. We graped some dinner at the food court then rushed of to make it on time to the conference. It is a Friday night and Saturday gig. Don't miss the Friday night session, it was great. They had this funny Marital therapist, Kim Nelson. Some quick highlights and my notes.

Agreement and understanding are not necessary they are quintessential. Men have to shut down to process ie, sit in front of the TV or the computer and totally veg. Women have to talk. The order in which men try to help is; 1st Fix the problem. Whether the solution is really practical or not. 2nd, they give advice, which is probably not practical. 3rd, they try to listen but of course this is the hardest of the 3. Number 1 is easy.

Love is always a gift.

Satan tells us that we will never qualify. God tell us our best effort and his love is perfection.

Women need to have no negative self talk. We need to talk to ourselves as a caring and loving mother would talk to her child.

Then Micheal McLean sang, We must be gentle with ourselves.

Micheal gave a stunning performance. We all bawled. One of my favorite songs is part of the 99. I feel like this song is true for most of us, it is for me. We may not be the one that Christ has to leave the group for but we are part of 99 who are doing what we are suppose to and we may not always get the appreciation or praise for doing what is right. At the end of the song he says we are not only part of the 99 we are his. He sang a lot of his songs and gave all the explanations behind them. It was amazing and very inspirational.

Saturday was great too. Mary Ellen Edmunds spoke first. She is always a hoot! In Indonesian they call Jesus Juru Selamet which means Expert in peace. She encouraged us all to become Little Jesus's. To be kind to all because we really don't know what each other is going through. She gave a great analogy about driving. How sometimes we have to make U turns, big or small. In general we have to make daily small corrections, the same as with steering a car.

Camille Fronk Olsen spoke on barreness. How many women in the Bible were barren and couldn't have children. She compared this to us all. That we are all barren without the Lord. When we realize our need for him, we can forget ourselves. The word womb means compassion in Hebrew and is the root word for many words. She told the story of Hannah in Samuel 1,2. We follow the Lord because we love him. The Lord creates all our paths. We need to rely on the spirit to get through all things. Happy is the man who the Lord correctith. Despise not the chastening of the Lord. Then Psalms 55:22 and 30:5.

Merilee Browne Boyack gave a stellar talk. After I had already spent my budget, I had to go and get her book. The parenting breakthrough. It is a fabulous book. It has so many wonderful ideas of how and what to teach your kids. All the practical things that they will need to be independent and successful adults. She uses the word training a lot as well as teaching but for some reason that resonates with me more than just teaching. I think it is because I am a nurse not a school teacher. Training new nurses and patients is what i used to do. So now I am going to train my children. She is really big on service. She makes a good argument. If we ourselves and our children to be more like Christ we all have to serve more. She said that only 1% of families do service, outside of scouts, school and Christmas. Sad huh.

Find joy in everything. Be good for something everyday. She committed us to give away, what she calls 5 split seconds a day. Just 5 simple heartfelt comments a day.

We have to take action because just caring is not enough.

1st We have to open our eyes and start seeing the needs all around us.

2nd We have to open our hearts

3rd We must pray to know who would should help.

4th We have to open our wallets. If we just give $1.00 a week to the humanitarian fund x the 800 people that were at the conference. You can see how it multiples. She also works with Mothers without borders, for $1.50 a day they can save kids in Africa who have lost everything.

When his work becomes our work, our work becomes his.

Jason Wright is on a mission to save the hand written letter. He had great thoughts and ideas about how letters affect us. His dad died when he was sixteen and everyone said the wrong things. Luckily, he had an Aunt who was a nonmember, who wrote him exactly what he needed to hear.

He gave a great idea to pass out pre stamped and pre addressed envelopes. So every one can write a little about how they remembered the person and how they impacted their life.
Then just drop it in the mail. Then their loved ones will have lots of messages of love in their time of need. So write someone a letter, it may change their life.

Sharon Larsen spoke of her serious trials with a wayward son. They didn't even know where he was for 2 1/2 years. He is now 29 and still will not speak to his parents. She said the scripture in Matthew now has new meaning... Come unto me all ye that are heavy laden and I will give you rest. She says that she has now given her burden to the Lord. Trust in the Lord and lean not unto thy own understanding. The Lord knows what will make us happy. The Lord is the only one who can give us peace. Keeping our covenants gives us safety and motivation to lead us to Christ.

To all my Friends in PA go to this conference it is Oct. 11 in Phili. Just go to desertbook .com and click on Time out for women.

Thanks for all the great summaries of what you heard. It really makes me want to go. Too bad our stake is hosting a sleepover up near Palmyra at the girl's camp that night.

I found your blog off Kerri's list. It is so fun to see what you have been up to. It took me a second to figure out the initials but I have it now. The pics definitely helped clarify the two "C" names!

I am going to the Seneca Lake campout but this sounds awesome. I am going to definitely read these again. I really like the "training" idea and understanding the different ways men and women are. Donald definitely needs his tv time and it does bug me, but now I just do my blog at night so I guess that is our compromise.

Great notes I will definitely read them again!

Love ya!
